Pomegranate — Poetry with bits in!

Edition Seven: March

Introduction

Young poets are a contumacious lot. We asked for poems on the theme of ‘March’ and we’ve ended up publishing one poem called ‘October’, one about meeting October’s “chill air with clogged lungs”, and one called ‘Midsummer’s Eve’. But we like that the theme was interpreted pretty loosely, and in most of the poems it became a springboard to explore the passage of the months, the changing seasons, and even festivals and events that fall at specific times in the year. There are also some poems that have nothing whatsoever to do with March, just to keep things interesting.

We’re taking a slightly different tack as we invite submissions for Issue 8. There was much heated debate at Pom Towers when we were deciding on the next theme, and while ‘Naked Jungle Slide’ was the hot favourite for several days, we eventually settled on the far more open theme of ‘Saint’. We hope it inspires all our poets to great things, although Izzy would like me to remind you that submissions on any theme, including ‘Naked Jungle Slide’, are welcome.

But back to the issue at hand: as always, we’ve included in ‘March’ several pieces by young poets who are already quite well established in the world of poetry, and other work by some writers who have never been published before now. But, without exception, all of the work is of an extremely high standard, and we’re as dizzy and excited as March hares to present it to you. Enjoy!
